Who's Who
About Us
When it was known that the local shop was scheduled to close, a group of concerned local people met together to explore any ways in which the community could respond by supporting the continuation of the shop. As a result Bathford Enterprise For All (BEFA) Limited was established in November 2005 as a non profit-making enterprise, since registered under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014 (registration number 30025R). It is owned by the community and for the benefit of the community.
The aims of BEFA were stated as:
1. Develop and sustain a community shop within the Parish
2. Operate the shop as a Community Co-operative where the members are part owners
3. Provide retail goods and services from a convenient location to all the residents, with a product range determined by the needs and wishes of the community with an emphasis on locally sourced goods
4. Promote, encourage and provide a central meeting point and a centre for community information
5. Support local businesses and the local economy by providing an outlet for local fresh and processed produce and local products such as art work, needlecraft and stationery.
6. Provide a delivery service for residents without transport, residents confined to the home, residents who are less mobile and others who would benefit from a delivery service.
BEFA took over the running of the shop on May 1st 2006 and it opened to the public on May 5th 2006. Information and photographs about the first busy weekend of redecoration and setting up of the shop can be found by clicking here.
Membership is open to all and costs £10 for a share. To become a member, download the application form at the bottom of the page and hand it in to the shop with your joining fee of £10.
BEFA is grateful for the support it has received from the Co-operative Group, Bathford Parish Council, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Community Action and a number of donations from private individuals.
